In the Tibetan Buddhist pantheon of enlightened beings, Chenrezig (Quan -Yin) is renowned as the embodiment of the compassion of all the Buddhas, the Bodhisattva of Compassion. Avalokiteshvara is the earthly manifestation of the self born, eternal Buddha, Amitabha. He guards this world in the interval between the historical Sakyamuni Buddha, and the next Buddha of the Future Maitreya. According to legend, Chenrezig made a a vow that he would not rest until he had liberated all the beings in all the realms of suffering. After working diligently at this task for a very long time, he looked out and realized the immense number of miserable beings yet to be saved. Seeing this, he became despondent and his head split into thousands of pieces. Amitabha Buddha put the pieces back together as a body with very many arms and many heads, so that Chenrezig could work with myriad beings all at the same time. Sometimes Chenrezig is visualized with eleven heads, and a thousand arms fanned out around him. Chenrezig may be the most popular of all Buddhist deities, except for Buddha himself — he is beloved throughout the Buddhist world. He is known by different names in different lands: as Avalokiteshvara in the ancient Sanskrit language of India, as Quan-Yin in China, as Kannon in Japan. As Chenrezig, he is considered the patron Bodhisattva of Tibet, and his meditation is practiced in all the great lineages of Tibetan Buddhism. The beloved king Songtsen Gampo was believed to be an emanation of Chenrezig, and some of the most respected meditation masters (lamas), like the Dalai Lamas and Karmapas, who are considered living Buddhas, are also believed to be emanations of Chenrezig. Whenever we are compassionate, or feel love for anyone, or for an animal or some part of the natural world, we experience a taste of our own natural connection with Chenrezig. Although we may not be as consistently compassionate as some of the great meditation masters, Tibetan Buddhists believe that we all share, in our basic nature, unconditional compassion and wisdom that is no different from what we see in Chenrezig and in these lamas. The Sacred Quan Yin is the most beautiful goddess of mercy, compassion and kindness. It is said that the Quan yin was a wonderful person who had lived such a life of merit and goodness that she erased all karma and transcended the cycle of birth and rebirth. Just as it came time for her to step out of the world of suffering and into Nirvana, Kwan Yin stepped back, vowing to remain in this world to aid and comfort all suffering beings. She vowed never to enter Nirvana until she has ferried every suffering being across the ocean of Samsara. Quan Yin promised because of her unconditional love for all, to come to the aid of any suffering being, and to do this in whatever manner and form necessary, and within the cultural, spiritual and psychological context best suited to the individual in need. Although the most common and popular image and concept of Quan Yin today is female, the spirit of compassion knows no gender. Whether you are female or male, the spirit of compassion can stream forth from you for it abides in your original heart. Quan Yin is not limited by gender, race, age or ethnic background. Quan Yin aids healing and compassion and she will cleanse and calm any environment of negative forces, dark and bad energy, she will help with disruptive issues, illness and arguments. Quan Yin will relax bad moods and will put tranquility in place. It is important that Tibetan Ghau’s & amulets be treated with respect. The Samye Monastery in Tibet is located at the foot of Mount Haibu Rishen, north of the Yarlung Tsangpo River. Consciousness is our essence. It is energy that creates everything in the universe. To heal someone, you must first know why people suffer. If through healing them, you can show them how to stop suffering, you have fulfilled your role as a physician. At the heart of all suffering there is a spiritual remedy that comes about from knowing the relationships between karma and suffering. Karma comes from the chaos that exists within all living creatures, all aspects of this world and the universe at large. Some chaos is good, some indifferent, some bad, but it is the stuff from which happiness and then enlightenment can be made. There is a huge amount of power in this Portable Ghau Amulet. As such, it is the underpinning beneath all religion. But shamanism is not a religion. It is a complex set of practices, beliefs, values and behaviors that enable the practitioner to elicit a shift from ordinary consciousness into a trance state with a specific goal in mind, such as for healing, obtaining information, power, vision, divination, contacting the spirit of the deceased, soul retrieval or guidance for right action. Shamanic work is done with the aid of a helping ally of some sorts that the shaman has befriended. They work together as a cooperative team, with the ally being an intermediary between different levels of reality and the shaman, an engineer of altering states of consciousness. Shamans throughout the world and throughout time, recognize that the universe is alive, conscious, and filled with spiritual power. Shamans know how to access this web of power and work with it skilfully and effectively to address their and their community’s needs. Shamanism is the use of shamanic practices within a shamanic value system. Traditionally a shaman goes through the experience of a “calling”, usually through illness, accident or some unusual quality of being, then through an arduous apprenticeship of teaching, training and testing, followed by some sort of passage rite into their new status. Typically shaman do not define themselves as such. Instead they are defined by their community based on what it is that they do. Becoming a shaman and living as a shaman is a difficult and demanding life path that many indigenous people shy away from because of its formidable requirements. It is not about fun and glamour. Unskilful and uneducated acts can cause harm, or even be life-threatening, to the practitioner as well as to others. For shamanism deals with power, and power can move in many different ways, like electricity. It is important to move slowly with respect, humility and care.
