Fine Tibetan Bronze Adi(Supreme)Buddha Samantabhadra & his Consort Samantabhadri
This is a beautiful piece and I have only ever found another similar to this in the Crow Collection in Dallas Texas. Adi (Supreme)Buddha Samantabhadra (Ever Perfect He-One) and his Consort Samantabhadri the Ever-Perfect-She-One, a. The Girl in Union as One Yab-yum. We are not certain where it was made or when, but note Sino-Tibetan elements of style, and affinities with sculpture made in the 20th century. We are pursuing answers to these questions. Amantahbhadra embodies the Primordial Buddha In Tibetan esoteric Buddhism. Traditionally he is depicted in deep blue, and is shown in tantric union with his consort Samantabhadri. As depicted in this Silver & Gold bronze, they are shown in the sacred union of Yab-Yum. The female Samantabhadri holds a vajra in her uplifted arms, her body arches up meeting the penetrating gaze of Samantabhadra, whose arms wrapping around her and met in dhyana mudra. As the embodiment of compassion he embraces her transcendent wisdom. Despite its age it appears to have only a few marks and minor scratches, overall the statue is remaining in very good condition. It weighs 6lbs 8.8oz and measures approximately 6 3/8″W x 5 3/4″D x 9T if you flip it over you will find that they are anatomically correct and engaged in lovemaking. They are both sculptured separately while sitting together as one.
